About the Role
We're looking for a senior backend engineer who's built systems that handle real load — not just proof of concepts. You understand distributed systems, have opinions on database choices, and know when to optimize and when "good enough" really is good enough. You'll be working on our location intelligence platform, building the APIs and data pipelines that power everything. This means designing systems that process terabytes daily, implementing strategies that return complex spatial queries in milliseconds, and writing code that your teammates will thank you for.
What You'll Do
- →Design and implement high-performance APIs
- →Build and maintain distributed data processing pipelines handling petabyte-scale datasets
- →Optimize queries and design efficient data models for analytics
- →Collaborate with frontend engineers to define API contracts
- →Participate in architectural decisions and contribute to technical strategy
- →Write thorough tests and documentation
- →Mentor junior engineers and contribute to code reviews
What We're Looking For
- ✓5+ years of backend development experience with production systems at scale
- ✓Expert-level proficiency in compiled systems languages and scripting languages
- ✓Deep understanding of distributed systems, consensus algorithms, and data consistency
- ✓Experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases, and knowing when to use which
- ✓Strong grasp of API design principles and protocol selection
- ✓Track record of optimizing performance bottlenecks in production
- ✓Clear written communication—we work async and remote
- ✓US work authorization (we cannot sponsor visas at this time)
Nice to Have
- +Experience with geospatial data systems
- +Contributions to open source projects in relevant areas
- +Experience building RBAC systems or working with FedRAMP compliance
- +Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and Infrastructure as Code
- +Prior experience at a startup or small team environment
