Introduction:

The Zebra, named a Best Place to Work in Austin four years running, is revolutionizing how connected consumers research and shop for insurance. We intentionally strive to build diverse teams that feel inclusive for all. Our motto is "All Stripes Welcome," and we put that into practice by valuing both traditional and non-conventional backgrounds and perspectives. Our Zeebs are passionate about learning, growing, & working together to tackle exciting problems.

We are adding an experienced Senior Data Modeler to join our Data team. In this role, you will be critical in ensuring the alignment and integration of data models across the organization. By working closely with business units and technical teams, you will guarantee that all data models are consistent, cohesive, and aligned with the company's strategic objectives.

Your expertise in data modeling and business analysis will enable you to bridge the gap between technical and business teams, ensuring that data models meet technical requirements and support business goals. You will prevent siloed development by maintaining a holistic view of how data models connect across different teams and projects.

Location:

While we are open to remote work across the contingent US, we are still in the process of establishing our company to support work in all states! We’ve recently made the shift from an in-office organization to a hybrid model and love the flexibility it allows our employees. We are set up to support employees who want to be fully remote, in-office only, and a mix of the two.

Please note: We will not support work based in California, Massachusetts, New York, or New Jersey.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop, review, and refine data models to ensure they are aligned with organizational standards and business objectives. Ensure that data models are well-documented and consistently applied across all teams.

  • Collaborate with business units, data engineers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to ensure a unified approach to data modeling. Facilitate workshops and discussions to align different teams on data modeling practices.

  • Monitor and validate data models to ensure data integrity, consistency, and accuracy.

  • Analyze business requirements, translate them into data models that support business processes, and provide insights on how they will help the team.

  • Identify and resolve conflicts or inconsistencies in data models by working with teams to develop solutions aligned with the overall data strategy.

  • Maintain comprehensive data models, decisions, and process documentation. Provide regular reports to management on the status of data modeling efforts and any potential risks or issues.

What We're Looking For:

As we evaluate candidates across all roles, we look for folks who have a strong sense of ownership, great communication and collaboration skills, and a dedication to continuous improvement.

  • 5-7 years of experience in data modeling, data analysis, or a similar role, with a strong understanding of business processes and how they relate to data models.

  • Technical: Proficient in data modeling tools (e.g., ER/Studio, ERwin), SQL, and data visualization tools. Familiarity with data governance frameworks and best practices.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically about how data models support business objectives.

  • Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and manage relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

  • Experience with eCommerce data frameworks, best practices, and challenges

  • Meticulous in ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and integrity across all data models.
