Job Summary:
The Assistant Plant Manager assists with the direction, coordination, safety, and efficiency of the manufacturing plant operations. Assists with the coordination of work crews to ensure that the production process runs safely and efficiently to produce high quality products. Assists the Plant Manager and Management team with development and improvement of manufacturing processes and procedures. Directly supervises all Shift Supervisors and Maintenance Supervisor/Manager and indirectly supervises the Assistant Shift Supervisors, Machine Operators, Maintenance Technicians, Needle board Technicians and Material Handlers.
Responsibilities:
- Assists the Plant Manager with the direction and coordination of a safe and efficient manufacturing plant operations.
- Assists with the management of work crews including ensuring appropriate staffing levels, handling of employee issues, ensuring production schedules are met, company policies and procedures are followed and ensures that safety is of the utmost importance.
- Supports manufacturing team by assisting with positive coaching and training of staff members as needed. Assists with evaluations, training plans and goal setting as needed.
- Upholds Agru America and OSHA safety practices/guidelines to ensure a safe work environment for everyone. Continuously collaborates with safety team, management team and employees to identify and improve upon safe work practices, accident avoidance and daily safety awareness.
- Under the direction of the Plant Manager and Management team, assists with the development and improvement of manufacturing processes and procedures to include but not limited to efficiency strategies, lean manufacturing and ISO certification/documentation.
- Efficiently assists with administrative functions including but not limited to budgets, training guidelines, reports, periodic updates to management team, presentations, ERP system/dashboards input and maintenance, rail delivery needs, production/crew schedules and equipment/maintenance requests as needed.
- Assists with continuous budget review to ensure that manufacturing costs are minimized to include costs associated with manpower, facilities, equipment, materials, assets, production goals and production downtime.
- Continuously develops professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, working with production team to understand the process and staying abreast of technical/safety/environmental legislation/requirements.
- Able to back up the Plant Manager in their absence.
- Receives information from Plant Manager about: products, production/crew schedule, raw materials and recipes, quality specifications, safety and environmental guidelines, manufacturing trial needs, and manufacturing process changes and improvements.
- Informs the Plant Manager about product quality problems, equipment problems, manufacturing efficiency suggestions, manufacturing trials, budgetary review, and problems with personnel, machine downtime, and work orders to request repairs from maintenance, safety concerns and education/training needs.
- Any other duties that the Company in its sole discretion may assign as needed.

Education and Experience:
- High School diploma / GED, required
- 3-5 years in Management in an industrial setting
- Supervisory experience with at least 20 personnel
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to frequently lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds.
- This position requires, but is not limited to, standing, walking, utilizing stairs or ladders, driving automatic forklift, climbing, squatting, stooping, twisting, bending, grabbing and grasping.
- Must be able to work in a non-controlled environment
