Position Highlights

• Part-time position with approximately 5-10 hours per week

• School hours are 8:00am-5:00pm EST; services must be provided during school hours

• Services will be provided as push-in through the virtual classroom, pull-out 1 on 1 services, and evaluations

• Teletherapy experience required

• GA DOE (TVI) required

• IEP Experience preferred

• Preference given for candidates with a National Certification in Orientation and Mobility

The Teacher of the Visually Impaired teaches individuals with visual impairment disabilities, providing a program and instruction to promote cognitive, academic, communication and language, behavioral and social, and physical development.

• Provide high-quality online services to students according to the student's IEPs

• Develop instruction plans that are child and family-centered

• Provide direct services and instruction with the use of appropriate communication mode

• Consult with teachers, therapists, support staff, and families to facilitate classroom or home participation

• Develop, monitor, and report on goals; determine needs, and design interventions utilizing research-based best practices

• Provide clear documentation in designated platforms that support the progress and growth of students toward their documented goals

• Participate in IEP meetings and other meetings as needed

• Oversee and ensure timely scheduling and rescheduling for assigned students through the use of the auto-scheduling system, and manually if necessary.

• Monitor student attendance for services, completing timely documentation as required by schools

• Primary contact for all communication directly with school personnel, students, and families regarding services to students on caseload

• Provide students with positive reinforcement

• Establish and maintain a safe and effective environment for learning

Education and Experience:

• Active state licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired where performing teletherapy services

• State and Federal requirements for working in a school setting (FBI background check, Dept of Education Certification- if required by the state)

• Experience delivery services online - preferred

• Two years of experience working in a school setting - preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of subject area and current instructional methodologies and techniques associated with the visually impaired child.

• Knowledge of deaf culture.

• Skills in manually coded English and American Sign Language.

• Skills in administration, analysis, and interpretation of a variety of assessment measures.

• Ability to teach students of a wide variety of levels and age ranges.

• Ability to work effectively with parents, community, and education colleagues in and outside the program.

• Ability to function as a positive, contributing member of an educational team.

• Excellent Technology & Computer proficiency, including the ability to learn new digital platforms

• Reliable Wi-Fi/Internet access

• Distraction-free work environment

• Knowledge and experience with Special Education Services and support to include writing PLOPs, IEP Goals, and determination of appropriate services and accommodations as part of the IEP team

• Knowledge & experience in administering evaluations prefer experience in virtual administration

• Excellent written and oral communication including the ability to independently draft professional documentation as part of the evaluation and IEP process

• Flexibility and adaptability in day-to-day operations

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

• Manual dexterity to operate a telephone and enter data into a computer.

• Facility to sit at a desk, conference table, or in meetings of various configurations for extended periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Facility to see and read, with or without visual aids, laws and codes, rules, policies, and other printed matter, and computer screens and printouts with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Facility to hear and understand speech at normal room levels and to hear and understand speech on the telephone with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Facility to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal conversations, in training sessions, and in other meetings with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Mental Demands: Ability to foster collaborative relationships, work well under pressure, organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks.
